October 15 2021 | The Biafra Telegraph

The combined Military invasion and massacre that took place in Obigbo, Rivers State Nigeria from October 2020 till mid 2021 is still fresh in our hearts. Till date, the members of Indigenous People of Biafra are yet to recover from mental trauma and torture suffered as a result of the magnitude of human losses. The killing was a selective one. A carefully profiled genocide from house to house, IPOB members were hacked down. Some wounds truly don't heal. Our hearts bleeds till date.

It all started on the 4th of October 2020, the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) led by Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from Obigbo Local Government Area in Rivers state, had planned their cultural festival at Oboakpu in Obigbo Rivers state. It was on a Sunday. As preparation was going on, we received information very early in the morning, that the Nigeria Security Agents had occupied the proposed venue of the Event. To avoid the usual unprovoked killings of our people, we called off the occasion and informed members to stay back in their homes.

The cultural festival did not hold any longer. Despite calling off the Event, these untrained Security forces still went on to arrest and brutalize people who were returning from churches and even moved into homes of people who resides within the area of the venue.

This invasion and arrests were supervised by Obigbo Local Government Chairman, Prince Gerald Oforji. He brought the Police Officers (SARS) and watched as they tortured and humiliated innocent people. The Chairman went further to hire Apartments in Obigbo for the monstrous SARS and Military Officers for a long period of time

As days rolled by, the public outcry against the evil operation of these Officers had gone viral. They killed the innocent without provocation. They blocked every entrance to the area, searching vehicles for every young male adult. The humiliation was unbearable and the youths protested against these monsters.

There was a Nationwide protest organised by Nigeria Youths against the operation of Police SARS Officers and was tagged #EndSARS. The Nigeria Government rolled out its Military to shoot at sight any Youth found to protest against SARS. These Officers went to Lekki toll gate in Lagos State, Nigeria where the youth were in a peaceful protest, waving Nigerian flags, they opened fire and killed them in their numbers. They killed many youths in all the states in Nigeria. No state was left out.

The unprovoked military action against the people by Nigeria Government, led to reprisal attacks by the wounded youths and Police Officers and Soldiers were attacked too.

In Obigbo Local Government, the controversial Chairman, Prince Gerald Oforji and the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike intensified military invasion and killed 80% of Igbo people resident in Obigbo, accusing them of supervising #EndSARS Protest in Rivers state. From that October 2020 to December 2020, over five hundred (500) people were killed and over a thousand (1000) people were arrested and taken to Abuja and spread in other Northern States in Nigeria. As at today, some people are still in detention and have not been charged to Court because there is no charge. Majority have died in different dungeons while others are still missing.

The Leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu made frantic efforts to release over four hundred of this people from some Military Detention camps. He gave free medical treatment to the injured. The Military invasion and occupation in Obigbo lasted for nearly one year.

The month of October will forever be remembered as a month of Bloodbath by the State Governor, the LGA Chairman and Nigeria security Forces. We shall never forget our formidable family members who paid the ultimate price to protect us from the flying bullets of these monsters.

We shall write it in our archives, how the Obigbo Rivers turned into Blood from hundreds of Bodies thrown in there. We shall never forget how our women were raped by these uncircumcised Military Officers from the North. Some never returned to tell their stories.

We shall never forget those who are still languishing in custody till date. We will continue to pray for the souls of those who departed to find Peace. We make a promise to continue the struggle till true Freedom is achieved in a Biafra Nation.
