Marketers and business owners in Ebonyi state has continued to lament unabated, following the state government demolition of the popular Ebonyi state Building Materials market located at Afikpo Road in Abakaliki the state capital under the instruction of Engr. David Nweze Umahi the state governor.
The market demolition which started from the month of February 2021 and still ongoing as at the time of this report, has rendered many business owners financially broke, at the same time draw their economy far backwards and made life extremely hard for them, as their source of livelihood has been demolished by the government without alternative provision for continuation of their business activities.
Thousands of people and many households were badly affected following the demolition of the second largest market in Abakaliki Ebonyi state. Hard-earned thousands and millions of naira owned by the people of Ebonyi state and other Biafrans doing business in Ebonyi state particularly in the building materials market were equally lost in the market demolition.
Meanwhile, construction of shops and plazas are still ongoing on the site where the government intend to relocate the building materials market at Abakaliki LGA, behind Timber market Ebonyi state, shortly after Nkwagu Military cantonment barrack. Shops and plazas in the new Building Material market site has not reached completion stage, at least to enable marketers which has paid and secured the lock up shops and stands to move in with their goods, yet the government demolished the entire old Building materials market, leaving the marketers stranded and frustrated with their goods in the middle of the global economic challenge and difficulties.
IPOB Ebonyi State Media team visited the scene of the two markets to view and gather reports on the situation of things in the area. The team of correspondents gathered that the old Building Materials market at Afikpo Road Abakaliki has been fully demolished, almost leaving no block on top of the other, while the new Building Materials still in Abakaliki where the marketers ought to move in immediately they leave the old market; has not reached the completion stage to enable the stranded marketers move in with their goods and products to continue their businesses.
As at the time of this report, no business activities were seen to be moving in the two market sites. The questions which every right-thinking citizen will be asking on this matter should not be far from: what should the marketers and business owners whose shops and businesses were destroyed and shops demolished do for a living and to make ends meet for their immediate families, since the new Building Materials market complex has not been completed and commissioned?
Will the state government help them in paying their domestic bills including their children's school fees? Is it right for the government to stop and demolition her citizens businesses and means of livelihood when it has not made provision for a better option? Does this government actually care for the people or only the benefits of the few politicians? Is it actually still the government of the people by the people for the people or government of the few greedy for the few and by the corrupt few?
Indeed, an average Ebonyi business owner has suffered a lot in the hand of the government which ought to take care of them and fight for their rights as the law-abiding citizens, that struggles daily to provide for themselves and their families and pay their social bills.
This is not the first time that markets and businesses of Ebonyi people were being demolished by her government especially in the led administration of governor David Nweze Umahi in the state.
Recall that meat market which was the centre of business activities in Ebonyi state before International Market trading complex commencement, was demolished by the government the same manner building materials were being demolished, to the detriment and peril of the marketers and business owners. What the government wants to use the lands for has not truly being ascertained or made known to the public, some rumoured that it was given to the Muslim by Ebonyi state governor Engr David Nweze Umahi for the construction of mosque, in compensation to the northern oligarchy for the numerous favours obtained from the Islamic Bank and Sokoto Caliphate.
Marketers and business owners while narrating their ordeal, lamented that the government issues quit notice to them with short-term period to prepare and relocate. They cried that the worst problem they face and encounter is the late completion of the new markets complex, even when they had completed their new shops and stands payment to the government in the new market.
Some angry marketers who voiced out on the matter to Ebonyi state media team on the state of anonymity, categorically stated that it is wickedness on the side of the government to collect money from the marketers and business owners for new shops and stands in the new market complex and fail to deliver to their promises, some said they had been disappointed and lost confidence in the Nigeria government, because the government and the politicians that run the do called country do not care for the citizens welfare and wellbeing of the people, unlike their counterparts in other nations of the world, especially in the western world that cares for their citizens. Higher percentage of the victims and other observers on the happenings, said and stood on the opinion to totally disintegrate the contraption called Nigeria to pave way for the restoration of Biafra which is the Kingdom of God on earth.
Seriously, the matter is such a critical one such that the world should quickly look into before things gets out of hand and it'll turn into unimaginable, indeed the people who fall victim on daily basis are no longer happy and comfortable hence, they're ready to do anything in order to reclaim their citizenship rights and entitlements and end the injustice being meted on them daily by the government and the operators.
The agitation for Biafra restoration under IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for the complete disintegration of the British contraption called Nigeria if supported, granted and recognized by the world governing body such as UN, USA, EU AU etcetera, remains the best remedy to the suffering and plights of the entire Ebonyi people and the whole indigenous population put together in the expired entity as well as the entirety of black race.
No doubt there is no better time to divide Nigeria and let Biafra go for the betterment of humanity and mankind than now.
