The Ohaneze Youth Council, an apex Youth wing of the
Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, a sociocultural organization of the Igbo's have come out to
condemn the military siege in Afaraukwu as approved by the Nigerian government
under the Leadership of Mohammadu Buhari. In the past one week the military
have drafted troupes to the hometown of the late Chief Israel Okwu Kanu, father
of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi. Nnamdi Okwu Kanu ahead
of the burial of the late Eze and his wife.
In the press statement issued today, the 4th of February,
2020, the President of the Ohaneze Youth council in the person of Comrade
Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, made their displeasure known. The drafting of men of
the Nigerian armed forces to the community is just to cause a chaotic
situation. Their presence with several armoured carriers round the community is
already causing fear and anxiety amongst the residents of the area. He reiterated
that the youths of Ohaneze are not ignorant of the fact that it was the last
Operation python dance of 2017 which was led by Nigeria Military, that led to
the death of the late Eze and his lovely wife.
Furthermore, the Youth President wondered why the Army is
never drafted to the Northeast where insurgency, kidnapping, bloodletting and
terrorism have reached an epidemic stage but instead the Nigerian Armed Forces
are drafted to the Southeast that is totally peaceful and devoid of life threats
or social vices.
The Ohaneze Youth council President further cited that
the reason why the Igbos are agitating for self-determination is due to non-inclusiveness
by the Nigerian state in the developmental plans of the Nation. He went ahead
to advice that President Mohammadu Buhari should rather call the agitators to a
round table for a dialogue. He should stop killing the people and trying so
hard to intimidate them with his Armies.
In conclusion, he warned the Nigeria Government to avoid
anything that could cause chaos and also remember that the group is not
ignorant of the fact that it was the operation python dance of the Nigerian
armed forces of 2017 that killed the late Eze and his wife through the severe
shock from that attack. Ndi Igbo will not tolerate further intimidations during
the burial of the late Eze.
He finally pleaded with members of the Indigenous People
Of Biafra who have always pursued the agitation peacefully to remain peaceful
and law abiding. He also advised the Governor of Abia State in the person of
Okezie Ikpeazu to ensure that the Nigerian Military do not undermine our
peaceful stance and that the quietness of the leopard does not mean lack of
strength. Let him that have ear hear.
