BAD GOVERNANCE IN ABIA STATE, A CRITICAL MATTER OF URGENCY

In 1991 the present day Abia State was created amongst few other States in Nigeria and there was jubilation all over the State because the creation of a new State comes with it, rapid development. Abia, shares common boundaries with Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River and Anambra States. Unfortunately, from the year of its creation, it has never been blessed with any good Leadership. Each Administration has been a total FAILURE. There is always a huge case of Looting of the Treasury by the Government. Corruption hits the sky.

The effect of massive looting and recklessness by the politicians has caused too much havoc to the citizens of Abia State and visitors too.

First, is the nonchalant attitude of the government to the educational sector. Abia State Polytechnic is going through hell. The present government of Okezie Ikpeazu has no value for education and as such does not see the need to pay wages to the Lecturers. For a period of 16 months, the government has not paid and there hasn't been any plan to pay these salaries to the Staff of this institution in the near future. In the recklessness and impunity, Okezie Ikpeazu has pushed farther to sacking the same people he is owing salaries because they are lamenting of his cruelty. Rather than apologise to these workers, the governor is asking them to reapply for same job after accepting their sack letter. This is the highest level of madness, impunity, lawlessness and fragrant disrespect to the rights of the Workers. Okezie Ikpeazu has no shame and honour. He has turned himself into a tyrant.

The rate of unemployment in Abia State is alarming and indisputably, Majority of them are graduates. They have been jobless for decades as a result of continuous re-emergence of bad leadership in every four years since the creation of the State. The number of unemployed doubles each year because there is absolutely no plan to absorb them or create job opportunity for them. This has led so many of them into criminal activities.

Thirdly, the deplorable state of the roads in Abia State is alarming. Majority of the roads are no longer motorable. The two major markets in Aba do not have any single good access road. They are the Ariaria International Market and Ahia Ohuru Market (New market). These markets are experiencing worse sales ever especially since Okezie Ikpeazu came into power. It is a fact that 99% of the Roads in Aba are no longer in use because they have collapsed totally.

Electricity supply in Abia State seems to be the worst ever since the history of Abia. Families and Traders use generators to power their homes and business premises.

Lastly, the entire environment of Abia has been overtaken by heavy refuse because there is no government presence. No environmental workers, no refuse trucks and buckets and the people are living with Refuse. The people are facing serious danger in health hazards because an epidemic is about to explode.

During Elections, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu warned the people of Abia against participating in the election because Okezie Ikpeazu was going to be worse in his second tenure but nobody listened. Today, the people are wailing and regretting their disobedience to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

THE GOVERNMENT OF OKEZIE IKPEAZU IS THE WORST THING HAPPENING TO THE PEOPLE OF ABIA.
