The RevolutionNow Protest that was championed by the
detained owner of Sahara Reporter Omoyele Sowore ended in disarray in Lagos
State. The combined security operatives were seen moving around areas in Lagos
State from Oshodi to Ajegunle to Ojuelegba to Surulere and various other towns
within the state.
They were in their long convoy numbering more than 20
Hilux vans parading each town. Ojuelegba were the protests was meant to start
while the people will march down to National Stadium Surulere, as at 6:45am the
police have mounted their vehicles and check points in Ojuelegba which affected
flow of vehicular movement. At about the hours of 8:00am people started
converging for the protests but by 9:00 am when they were about to kick off the
Nigerian police opened fire on them, shooting canister of teargas at them to
disperse them. They also made some number of arrests as over 20 persons were
arrested and some ran away.
Some Journalist who were on ground to record and, take
report of the procession were attacked by the Police for capturing them where
they were brutalizing unarmed civilians including young women who have come out
to protest against the injustice and hardship within the country.
Many have also criticized the arrest of the brain behind
this Revolution, among those who have criticized his arrest is the Leader of
the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who said protest is a
fundamental Right and as a matter of urgency Sowore should be released. Others
who criticized the arrest were former minister of Aviation Chief Femi Fani
Kayode, Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and so many others.
But the ruling party and the Federal Government have condemned
the tag name "RevolutionNow" saying it is treasonable to call for
such protest because it's a move to overthrow the Government that was duly
elected by Nigerians marching only 4 months ago. They added that anyone
arrested in the protest will be charged for treason. Every Nigerian knows that
the said Election was marred with so much irregularities and intimidation which
led to the contest against the declaration of the Ruling party as winner, at
the Election Tribunal and Courts respectively.
The Present Government of Buhari is the worst thing
happening to Nigeria today. The Masses are killed in their numbers by the
Terrorist Fulani Herdsmen without any effort by the Federal Government to halt
it. The economy is sliding to rapidly to a crashing point. The life of an
average Nigerian is not guaranteed.
