Enugu State is situated in the Southeast region of
Nigeria. It has major cities with millions of inhabitants of whom are all Indigenous
People Of Biafra.
On the 20th of July 2019 being Eke market day in Biafra,
a community in Enugu named Ihe in Awgu L.G.A. within the territories of Biafra,
was captured in a viral news all over the globe about the death of so many vultures
presumed to have died from poisoned meat consumed from remnants in a close abattoir.
Correspondents from State Media Team, Enugwu carried out
an independent search to unravel the uncommon occurrence. Information received
from an eye witness in the community, has it that activities of the market
started properly with the normal buying and selling by Traders from within the
Community and neighbouring town. The market has a portion of it, designed for Abattoir
where cows and goats are slaughtered. These Cows are usually bought from the
Fulani herdsmen who graze around the State. According to this indigene, an
elderly woman who chose to remain anonymous, every Cow that is sold in Eke Ihe
on every Eke market day is always slaughtered at the Abattoir side on same day.
Surprisingly, the case of the Eke market Day of 20th July, nobody witnessed the
slaughtering of any Cow. The Cow was butchered in the night and was ready for
sell even before the first person that came to the market for business on that
day.
Mazi Eric Okafor who was there to investigate this
incident said the eye witness had gone to the market to buy meat on that very
day but something kept delaying him till people were sighted watching some
vultures tottering and falling. After a little more time, they were dying one
after the other. People fled home without buying meat and a town crier started
announcing round the village warning people who already bought meat from that
market not to consume the meat.
The next day when they returned to the market to inspect
those vultures, they observed that even the flies that pitched on the dead vultures
were all dead.
Our Media Correspondent visited the market the next day
to interview the Meat sellers and butchers. To our shock, when Traders told us
that the Nigeria Security Agencies came along with some staff of NTA Television
on Monday 22nd July 2019 and took the Butchers away but we waited till late in
the night to interview them but when we tried to ask some questions, they said
they were instructed not to discuss the incident with anyone.
The Veterinary department of the Nigeria Government whose
responsibility is to examine every meat that is meant to be consumed by the
Masses is no longer functioning most especially within the Biafra territories.
In a saner clime, there would have been a statement from
the department in charge. We would have been informed of how many people that
are at the hospital and number of lives lost. The Security department would
have carried out arrests and prosecution.
Understandably, the immunity strength of Vultures and
Humans are definitely not the same, the vulture may die after some minutes but
for Man, it may linger longer through sickness.
According to Ichie Agu Oje, an elder from the Ihe
community, the Abattoir is situated at the premise of OKUKU IZU, a sacred deity;
a place which has remained sacred and holy from the days of their ancestors and
has been under the charge of a god/deity. This deity is said to have been
instructed by Chukwuokike Abiama the God of all gods to always stay there and
protect the people of Ihe.
If the entire people of Biafra, Christians, Jews, haters
of Terrorists and lovers of freedom can come together and say ‘No To
Consumption of Cow meat’ reared by the Fulanis, it will put an end to their
grazing in our farms and acts of terrorism would have been a thing of the past.
We must stop desecrating our lands with the Fulani raped Cows and meat,
considering the fact that they have killed us and raped our women in course of
grazing the Cows.
