There is an Igbo adage that's says "Ihe ojo gba afo, o buru
omenala" interpretation: When evil is allowed to last for years, it
becomes tradition. The judicial arm of Government failed to rise up
against Injustice when it was carried out on the Indigenous People Of Biafra
and her leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. They failed to compel the Executive arm of
government to obey court Orders issued to them.
Recall that in 2015 Justice Ademola granted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu an
unconditional release from Prison, but the Executives stood against that order
and rather turned to haunt the Judge for carrying out his duties as a
Judge. Ironically, a stooge Judge, in early 2016 Justice Tohso upturned
the judgement of Justice Ademola and remanded Nnamdi Kanu in prison
custody.
The cases of Sambo Dasuki, El Zakzaki are there as evidence of a weak
Judiciary. These men were granted bail since 2015 and till date, the Federal
Executive arm stood against it. They are both languishing in prison till date.
The negligence of duty by the Judicial arm of Government has caused the
lives of so many people in detention. This absurdity has triumphed because some
corrupt Judges have allowed themselves to be used as stooges by the Executives.
These group of Judges are a huge shame to the Jury.
Today, the bullet from the Executives has hit one of their own, The
Chief Justice of Nigeria and they have jumped from their decayed and
compromised souls to speak up. Isn't this rather late?
Where were the Judiciary when the homes of their fellow Judges were
invaded because they refused to turn stooges to the Executives?
Where were the Judicial Body when their Honourable Members were paraded
like Criminals by the Executive arm because they refused to accept bribe and
turn cases in their favour?
Where were the Judiciary, when a world recognized Peaceful Organization
like IPOB was labelled a Terrorist Organization and proscribed by the NIGERIA
Government? Didn't that order stand till date even though the Int'l community
kicked against it?
The world tagged FULANI Herdsmen as Fourth most deadly Terrorist
Organization but didn't NIGERIA Judiciary say No? Despite the thousands of
lives taken by this group. Where were you men of the Judicial Body?
Where were this all-important arm of Government when their fine Officers
were forced to resign from their offices by the corrupt Executive arm?
In shock, Nigerians watched as the offices of the CJN, NBA and NJC
carried on their duties as though it was not offensive enough.
Therefore, it is not coming to us as a surprise that this same corrupt
dictatorial Executive arm has unseat the country's CJN using just a CCT Oder.
Absurdity taken too far. No, it is no surprise because they have done worse
things.
A functional Judicial system takes serious steps to stop an overbearing
Executive arm at its first attempts to break the Judicial or Legislative arms. Measures,
such as Strike actions, Street Protests and Press Conferences are used to press
home their resolve to bring back sanity before it degenerates to total anarchy.
The time to rise up against a looming anarchy is now. The Judiciary
must speak up, not just because of the CJN, but because the lives of other
Nigerians are in their hands to protect. IPOB members are killed for no
crime against the Government. Innocent Nigerians are languishing in Prison
custody without trial. Rise up and speak so that posterity will record it that
you tried to live up to your duties as Honourable Jurists.
