Business activities in Abakaliki the Ebonyi state capital were today 1st
February, 2019 completely shut down by the state governor Engr David Nwaeze
Umahi, ahead of the PDP presidential election campaign in the state.
Major markets and business centres in the state capital such as meat
market, building materials market, mechanic site were all shutdown by the state
Governor and forcefully mandated the marketers to move down to the Ebonyi state
township stadium the venue where Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Nigeria presidential
aspirant is slated to stay and address the masses and the party supporters
after meeting the governor and members of the People’s Democratic Party in the
Ebonyi state government house.
The state governor warned that any marketer who went contrary to open
his shop till the campaign ends, will face the consequences of having his or
her shop closed down by the government.
Some of the marketers in Meat market who spoke with the media on the
condition of anonymity when we visited complained area said that the state
government did not give them earlier notification that the markets will be
shutdown.
They came this morning to see the markets under lock and keys, this has
equally thrown many into the state of coax, as some lamented that it will be
hard for them to feed their family and pay their daily petty expenditures since
the source of their income was closed down due to what many of them tagged
selfish interest of the greedy politicians.
This ugly decision was taken against the people by the governor, because
of the fact that the people have decided never to participate in the political
activities in the state as well as to 'Sit At Home' on the 16th February, 2019
in compliance to the IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu order to boycott the
forthcoming Nigeria organized general elections especially the presidential
election in the entire Biafra land.
Recall that the governor humiliated Muhammad Buhari president of Nigeria
and the APC presidential candidate by giving him skeletal attention on
Wednesday 30th January, 2019 when he visited the state for campaign, then
markets were not closed.
