It is wondered how Nigerian government can claim to be practising democracy when the tenets of democracy are lacking in her system of governance. Her system of governance has no resemblance anywhere in the world.
It is wondered where in the world the same people who ruled the country during their military service continue to rule even after their military periods. But in Nigeria, this is the case. These same people turned what they decreed during their military rule of the state, into what is now termed the Constitution of Nigeria. These decrees turned constitution was deliberately written to favour the Nigerian military turned political elites and Muslims from the north for that matter.
Nigeria is a country where the government sponsors terror groups to kill its citizens, destroy farms and properties of innocent people in the name of rearing cattle. In fact the Nigerian government value the lives of cattle more than that of the citizens. The Nigeria government doesn't tolerate criticism or opposition; the rule of law has been thrown to the gutter. If anybody dares to criticize the government, it’s attack dogs, the Economic and financial crimes commission alongside its secret service will arrest the person. The fundamental human rights of freedom of expression and freedom of association are not respected. The government sends the military to kill the indigenous people of Biafra who were protesting unarmed for self-determination.
Democracy is said to be the government of the people, by the people and for the people. But the reverse is the case in Nigeria. The democracy in Nigeria is of the elites, by the elites and for the elites, they don’t care about the masses. Legislators have been subdued, the judges are arrested and forced to give judgments in favour of the government or be booted out or thrown into jail. The system in Nigeria is rather that of the perpetuity of military rule. what Nigeria has now is not a democracy, if its democracy and not military rule, why the killing of innocent Biafrans for protesting.
The Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu has since 2013 been demanding self-determination. Self- determination is enshrined in the UN charter, which Nigeria is a signatory. To make for peace in this demand, IPOB has asked for a referendum but Nigeria is silent about it, instead, they are busy sponsoring Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen to kill innocent people, the reason for which recently the former minister of defence, Rtd. Major General T.Y Danjuma asked the people to take up arms to defend themselves against the terror groups as Nigerian government is complicit in the killings, as such cannot guarantee their safety.
So to avoid a looming arms conflicts that will lead to war in Nigeria, let there be the dissolution of this country through referendum as demanded by the indigenous people of Biafra.
#Biafra is all we need, a #biafrareferendum is all we ask from them @nigeriagovernment
