The information reaching the Abia writers forum has it that members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) recently protested in their numbers at Utako area of Abuja, over the continuous detention of their leader El-Zakzaki. According to the information, youths in their thousands on the streets in Abuja caused gridlocks.
Despite the heavy presence of military personnel at Utako roundabout, there was no member of IMN that was recorded injured either by the police or by the military. This is commendable because this is how it should be in civilized clime. One then wonders why the same civility is not extended to the old eastern region. There has never been a protest in the areas Nigerian government call South East and South South without the military using it to show how good they are with their guns.
Thousands of IPOB members have been killed by the Nigerian security agencies yet there is another group of people holding similar events in the same country yet they are never disrupted. On 20th January 2016, there was a pro-Trump rally in Igweocha (Port Harcourt) by IPOB and there was an anti-Trump rally in Abuja, the Nigerian security agents killed 20 people and injured hundreds in the pro-Trump rally while the anti-Trump rally was escorted by the police throughout their rally. Everybody knows how peaceful IPOB protests and rallies are. These two rallies happened on the same day, in the same country but in different areas of the country.
The Nigerian government is going out of Democratic settings, and the cabals are enjoying the collapse of Nigeria yet they are deceiving the youths that Nigeria is ever united. The question on people’s lips in all the old Eastern region of Nigeria following the protest held by the members of (IMN) Islamic Movement of Nigeria is, why don’t the Nigerian security agencies treat them like their northern counterparts. Why protect the northerners but kill the southerners? Are these two areas in the same country? If yes why different measures for the two areas?
Why do they kill whenever there is a protest in our land and they don’t do the same in other parts of the country? The world should take note of all these, on the 30th of May 2018, IPOB observed a sit at home protest to remember their fallen Heroes. Even when we were sitting at home, a Biafran who was just sitting in front of his house was killed and the soldiers who killed him took his corpse away in their van and dumped his corpse in a refuse dump. If our people come out to protest they will be killed if they sit at home to honour their dead killed by these same people they will be killed. But if people from other regions protest, nothing will happen to them, even if their protest turns violent, they will be protected by the same security agents who are killing Biafrans.
It is very clear that there is no equal right in Nigeria and Biafrans are at the receiving end of this injustice. There should be equal rights for all Nigerians and if that cannot be, then, allow Biafrans to go.
