The leadership of the Abua-Odual/Engenni-Ogbogolo Special
Chapter of the foremost Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, vehemently condemn the
unprofessional acts by the Security Operatives sent to Amassoma by the Bayelsa
State Government that has led to the killing of Ijaw youths and the destruction
of properties in the community.
Chairman of the Special Chapter, Comr. Sokari G. Sokari,
express total dismay over the draconian manner the Bayelsa State Government led
by Governor Seriake Dickson is handling the minor conflict that can easily be
settled with the so-called sack staffers and the increase in fees in the Niger
Delta University which has now led to the loss of lives of Ijaw youths and the
aftermath effects in the families of the bereaved and the entire community.
According to Sokari Bayelsa state government should
understand the importance of NDU to the people of Ijaw and other ethnic
nationalities in Niger Delta and not just to Bayelsa State. There have been
series of loggerheads between landlords of universities and the government.
Former president Goodluck Jonathan with university of Lagos and Governor Nyesom
Wike with Rivers state polytechnic, just a mere change of name caused a major
uproar, both governments at various levels and time resolved and find an ending
solution.
It is surprising that small homogeneous state as Bayelsa cannot
solve issues amicably, instead resorting to intimidation and suppression the
same fate we suffer in Nigeria as minority.
He frowned at the lack of sincerity on the part of the
government towards restoring peace to the lingering crises in the state own
University. He reiterated that, there is nowhere in the world that, reforms are
carried out in the manner Governor Dickson is caring out the reforms in Bayelsa
State, that the whole exercise is not in conformity with the civil service
regulations, he therefore called on the government to trade with caution.
He berates the way some leaders in government forgets
their roots and how they came into position of leadership, as they in turns put
pains to those who work for them to attain such height in their life.
Comrade Sokari, commiserate with the families who have
lost their loved ones and the Amassoma community, and assured them that, the labours
of late Alamieseigha will never be vain, that his spirit even in grave will
fight and speak for them, even as our Elders can no more stand out to speak for
justice.
He concluded that the Ijaw Youth in the Special Chapter
will stand shoulder to Shoulder with the Amassoma Youth at all time.
