Nixon Sees Genocide in War against Biafra
The United States Republican
Presidential Candidate, Mr. Richard Nixon, today called for a halt on Nigerian
genocide against Biafra. In a statement from his headquarters, Mr. Nixon called
upon President Lyndon Johnson to devote “all the time and attention and
imagination and energy he can muster to assist the starving Biafrans. “The time
is past for the wringing of hands about what is going on,” he declared. “While
America is not the world’s policeman, let us at least act as the world’s
conscience in this matter of life and death for millions.”
He said that America should use
its “enormous wealth and power and ability” to meet a crisis that he held “now
involves genocide.” He said the time had passed for “diplomatic niceties.” (New
York Times)
