ENUGU— The IPOB Enugu Media has urged residents of the State not to participate in the upcoming local government elections slated to hold on 4th November 2017.
According to the State Media, following the directives of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, that all elections in Biafra land should be boycotted until the government fixes date for a referendum to determine people's political future, the Enugu State Local government elections is not an exception to that.
Speaking further on this, the State Media said, “We're aware that the Enugu State Government has approved the sum of N310 million to enable the state Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, conduct the forthcoming local government elections scheduled to take place on 4th November 2017 in the State.
“It is also a common knowledge that the leadership of IPOB, for the general well-being of the populace, has urged genuine Biafrans everywhere in Biafra land to boycott any Nigerian election until a date for referendum is given.
“In that note, we urge the Enugu State residents to boycott the local government elections and stay at their respective homes on that day. It will be in our collective interest if we all boycott the elections which at the end of the day will culminate to corrupt selection by those in government.”
The State Media also added that the impact of the local government Chairmen are not being felt at the grassroots and that good governance has been sacrificed on the alter of negligence, nepotism and dereliction of duties.
They also accused Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of being the number one enemy of IPOB in the State who has directed series of illegal arrests, detention and intimidation of Biafra activists by security agencies in the State.
