Kanu: The Prisoner of Conscience |

Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra
(IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra, will be appearing in court today to answer
to trumped up charges by Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) leveled against
him. Kanu is a freedom fighter who has peacefully campaigned for the
restoration of the independent state of Biafra.
According to his Lawyer, Chuka Momah, a Senior
Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Kanu would be appearing in court for further staying
of proceedings, pending the hearing and determination of the appeal filed for
Kanu at the Appeal Court in Abuja. This might also be to continue with the hearing
on the criminal charge leveled against Kanu by the SSS for the Nigerian State,
based on the decision of the Federal High Court of Abuja on March 7, 2016,
depending on the position of the presiding judge.
Kanu was abducted seven months ago by the SSS in
Lagos, and since then the SSS has engaged in numerous shenanigans and judicial
gymnastics, both in court and outside of it, which were meant to keep the
Biafran leader behind bars for a long time without proper trial. SSS is one of
the instruments of Muhammed Buhari, Nigerian President’s tyrannical rule.
Buhari’s other instruments of oppression are the Nigerian Police; Armed Forces (Army,
Navy and Airforce); and Civil Defence Defence Corps. They have in different
ways and at different times killed, maimed, and “disappeared” many Biafrans.
