There are roughly 700 members of the IPOB
in Trinidad and millions more around the world, including in Malaysia,
Greece and Austria, who are demanding political freedom,
self-determination and independence for the region formerly known as the
Republic of Biafra in southeast Nigeria.
In recent months, thousands of pro-Biafra activists have led protests in Nigeria which have increased following the arrest of the leader of the IPOB Nnamdi Kanu in October 2015. Kanu was charged with treasonable felony; if found guilty, he faces a life sentence.
