Victor Umeh |
In a communication made to Biafra media, the
Biafrans’ leading group said the Department of State Security (DSS), Buhari’s
number one terrorist outfit had arrested a politician, Victor Umeh for the purpose
of torturing and intimidating him. According to IPOB, Umeh was branded sponsor
of IPOB as well as Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of
Biafra (MASSOB), just to get back at him for criticizing his government on the
illegal arrest, detention and torture of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB and other
Biafrans.
Umeh was a former Chairman of All Progressives Grand
Alliance (APGA) and was the Senatorial candidate of the party in the coming
rerun Senatorial elections in Anambra State set for this March 5. Stan Okeke,
media aide to Umeh stated that the DSS had claimed that the arrest was based on
a petition from the trio of Uche Ekwunife, a former Senator; Peter Obi, former
governor; and Uzu Awka, another politician.
DSS men who arrested him yesterday, Thursday, March
3, said they did so because Umeh was sponsoring the activities of IPOB and
MASSOB.
But IPOB responded: “The whole world knows IPOB has
no dealings with politicians since we are not interested in the evil
contraption called Nigeria, but we want to keep the records straight; we want
to make it clear that this this modern day Adolf Hitler only wants to silence
Umeh and any other Biafran elite that may want to criticize his evil regime”.
IPOB further said that Buhari, as an unreformed
dictator, was acting like a drunken soldier gone berserk to shield his
incompetent rule from the people. They said also that it had become apparent
that what the new Hitler was doing was just to intimidate and silence Umeh for
speaking out against the illegal detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader, and
other Biafrans.
Umeh had accused Biafrans in the Nigerian
legislature of keeping mute in the face of Buhari’s tyrannical rule and terror unleashed
on Biafrans and Biafraland. Umeh’s offence, IPOB claimed, was because had
boasted during a campaign that if elected as Senator that his first action
would be to lead a campaign against the illegal detention of Kanu and other
Biafrans.
Victor Umeh was arrested and taken to Abuja by road,
a distance of about 548. 5 via Makurdi and Jos, which in IPOB’s contention was
Hitler’s way of humiliating him, to deny him what they thought was a pleasure, travelling
by air. “Buhari
arresting him is simply a signal to other would-be critics of his anti-Biafran
agenda that he would brook no opposition to his wicked rule” IPOB said.
Finally IPOB advised Biafrans not to relent in their
struggle “even though it is apparent that this Dracula tastes for more Biafran
blood. We must continue to be without fear before our enemies”.
