• Blasts judge over non-release of ruling in writing
From Steve Oko
Irked by the continued detention of its leader and Director of Radio Biafra, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), has threatened to resume its suspended protests.
The fresh protests according to a release by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Officer, Emma Powerful, will be “the mother of all protests as it will bring Nigeria to its knees”.
Although the release does not indicate when the renewed protests will commence, it will be recalled that economic activities were almost brought to a halt in major cities in the South East, Rivers and Delta States during the previous protests which also claimed the lives of some of the agitators.
IPOB expressed sadness that since Kanu was arrested and detained since October 14, 2015 , the federal government has not been able to provide witnesses to prove the “so- called treasonable felony” preferred against him.
It said the planned use of masked witnesses against Kanu was a proof that government had no case against him.
The statement read in part: “We have endured, we will start the protest that will bring the Nigerian government to its knees. That we stopped the protests was not out of cowardice and fear but to show maturity and professionalism in what we are doing and to allow FG to release our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally.
“But we found that his advisers who don’t want him to release our leader and those sycophants in his government waiting for his down fall are somewhere waiting to laugh at him and they will be the first to cast him out.
“We know they will kill us as they used to do before now but at the end we will be free.
“Biafrans are ready for what is to come and we are winning the battle. The protest going on around the world is still in progress and we in Biafraland will not stop until our leader is released unconditionally.
“Biafra is a spirit that possesses those who are chosen people of Chukwuokike abiama (God Almighty).”
IPOB also called on Christians to rise against plots by Muslims to Islamise Nigeria “as already shown in the inclusion of Nigeria as a member of the Islamic nations on war against terror.
“IPOB is calling all Christians in Nigeria to stand up and fight against the islamisation of the country. Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu warned about this before now that Buhari’s first agenda is to islamise Nigeria but people said he was preaching hate speech with Radio Biafra but now it is a reality.
“We are calling all clergymen and women, bishops, priests, pastors and men and women of God to unite. This is the time we have to take our destiny in our hands.
Meanwhile, the IPOB Director of Media and Publicity has noted with dismay that the non-realease of the court ruling in writing by the trial judge handling Kanu’s case contradicts the rule of law.
“Contrary to clearly laid down legal guidelines and provisions of the constitution of Nigeria, this judge Tsoho has repeatedly refused to release copies of his ruling in this high profile case.
“His ruling on the matter he presided over on the 19th of February where he said there will be no shielding of witnesses has mysteriously disappeared.
“He has failed to make available this ruling to enable our defense team to file the proper appeal papers and this is direct contravention of the same 1999 Constitution that says that all rulings in criminal matters must be signed and delivered by the presiding judge within 7 days”, the IPOB statement read.
